I am looking for a stock & shares ISA. Can you help?
Stocks & Shares ISAs (aka Investment ISAs) are available from banks or brokers and most give online access to a large range of investments, think: shares, bonds, funds, … So unless you are looking for a unique investment then your choice is mostly likely going to come down to fees. We have shortlisted the best UK brokers here.
You want a broker with the lowest fees for the investments you plan to make. It’s normal for brokers to charge a yearly ISA account fee and also a one-off fee for every transaction, BTW that’s whenever you buy or sell an investment. The transaction fee is usually fixed around £10 and it isn’t costly if you plan to hold your investments for a while and not trade every day or every month.
If you want to buy into a fund via the ISA you also need to look out for fund fees. Many brokers charge a yearly fee as percentage of the money you have in funds. For example, you may put £5,000 into ‘Ethical Fund 2018’ and the broker charges 0.25% that's a £12.50 yearly charge.
Side note: The broker's fee on funds is an EXTRA cost on top of the Fund Manager fee aka ongoing charges figures (OCF). To understand all the fees when it comes to buying a fund, read our guide.
This is not professional advice! If you need some of that speak with a financial adviser.
